Llandrindod Wells Town Council has re-elected its Mayor.

At Tuesday’s annual meeting of the town council, it was announced that Councillor Steve Deeks-D’Silva was re-elected to serve as chairman of the town council and as Mayor of Llandrindod Wells.

Cllr Laurence Weerdmeester-Price was elected to service as vice chairman and deputy Mayor.

It was a welcome announcement for Cllr Deeks-D’Silva, who is looking forward to seeing through projects he started in his first term as Mayor.

“When I was first elected I was excited to start projects up, and now being re-elected means I can develop them even further,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to working and strengthening as a team and a council and we’ve got some big ideas coming up. We’re just waiting for the lease to be agreed on the skate park, we’ve got a very exciting sports and wellbeing initiative which will involve working with local groups, and we’ll also be working on the climate change scheme that we introduced in November.

“We’re also hoping to develop a community chest fund and a newsletter. Although it’s been a strange few months in lockdown, it’s been great seeing the community come together.”

Despite being a self-proclaimed ‘technophobe’, Cllr Deeks-D’Silva has enjoyed the virtual meetings.

“I’m not sure when we’ll be able to meet properly again, but I’ve gotten rather used to virtual meets and I quite enjoy it!”
