The chief executive of Laura Ashley has left the company following the latest round of job cuts by administrators.

Katharine Poulter is no longer the head of the struggling Mid Wales fashion and furniture brand, which has two factories in Mid Wales, after PwC announced further redundancies this week.

Ms Poulter tried to 'bring Laura back' and revive its timeless designs after taking charge in January.

She said the internationally-renowned business will "always be in my heart" and praised the staff as an "amazing group of people", but has now departed the company.

In a message sent to Laura Ashley staff on Friday, she said: "I wanted to let you all know personally that as part of the redundancies this week, this means that today will also be my last day.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Laura Ashley, you are an amazing group of people...stars, ambassadors of the brand and a unique retail family.

"I wanted to say thank you for the warm welcome shown and the support and energy you have given to our turnaround. Remember those first several weeks when we went from sales of -13 per cent LY in Autumn Winter to plus-24 per cent in Spring. What a team, what an army!

"Sales, up, cost down, build the brand! 'Bringing back Laura' will always be in my heart.

"I wish you and your families my sincere best and may the road rise up to meet you. Let's hope our paths will cross again."
