WREXHAM Council has urged residents to participate in the Scams Awareness Fortnight 2020.

The Citizens Advice’s Scams Awareness Fortnight 2020 kicked off on Monday (June 15), which looks to give people the skills and confidence to identify scams, share their experiences, and take action by reporting any suspicious activities.

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council, said: "Citizens Advice wants to give you the knowledge you’ll need to recognise different scams, and show you how, if you think you’re being targeted, to stop and seek advice on what to do next.

"A short quiz has been put together so you can test your ability to identify a scam - have a go and see how you get on."

The council has also provided residents with some information on how they can become more aware of scams.

They added: "Week one is dedicated to helping you to identify what a scam is, as scams can come in many forms and are increasingly complex and sophisticated.

"Week two (June 22), will be looking at how you can report a scam, because if you think you’ve been scammed, there are steps you can take to protect yourself from things getting worse.

"If you take action immediately, you might even be able to recover some of the money you’ve lost."

If you believe you have been scammed, contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 0808 223 1133 (or via 0808 223 1144 for Welsh language) for advice.

You can also report scams to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or @actionfrauduk on Twitter.
