The Llanfair Caereinion Carnival is yet another event which has had to be called off because of the coronavirus pandemic - but by chance, this year's theme lends itself perfectly for people to take part virtually from home.

Kait Duerden, the secretary of the carnival, said that the committee "could not have imagined our current circumstances" when it set the 2020 carnival theme as 'Llanfair Imagines'.

The carnival was due to take place on Saturday, June 20. "Of course, it has had to be cancelled for this year along with so many other events we were all looking forward to," Kait said. But, all is not lost.

“We have agreed that the show must go on,” announced the chair of the committee, Nikki Peate. “So we will be holding some events online.”

The Llanfair Carnival Facebook Page has invited people to stay at home, and to observe all the current coronavirus guidelines; but to imagine their own carnival.

There are competitions online for the carnival queen, for fancy dress, and for the best imagined carnival float. For this year only, there is also a competition for the carnival king.

"We are inviting people of any age to enter all the competitions. So if you are nine months, nine years old or over 90, you can be this year's carnival queen or king," Nikki said.

Everyone who loves the carnival is encouraged to take part; whether that's dressing up, drawing and making a float. They can then take a picture and post it to the carnival's Facebook group, which can be found by searching for 'Llanfair Caereinion Carnival'.
