A RETIRED civil servant died six days after a fall in which he fractured a hip, an inquest hearing at Gwent Coroner's Court in Newport was told.
Resident Richard Dew, 89, was walking in a corridor at the Bryn Ifor Lodge care home in Castleton, when he fell on Tuesday, April 21.
He subsequently developed a chest infection and died on Monday, April 27. He also had a suspected bowel problem.
Senior Coroner for Gwent Caroline Saunders adjourned the inquest. A full hearing will take place on May 11 next year.
