The Castle Caereinion community have been left shocked by the “mindless vandalism” at the village school.

Castle Caereinion CiW Primary School was targeted by vandals after they broke into the school grounds and damaged a garden centrepiece.

Sarah Brian, headteacher at the school, said: “Our school grounds have unfortunately been subjected to some mindless vandalism. It will be challenging enough for our children returning to school on June 29 without having to return to this.

“To say we are upset is an understatement.

“In such a small community we all cherish our school and had hoped for better during these difficult times. The police have been notified but we ask if anybody notices any unusual activity at the school or anybody committing any damage please contact the police.”

Miss Brian added: “Castle Caereinion is such a wonderful community and a beautiful place to live so we are saddened by what we believe is an isolated incident. The police were contacted due to damage caused to a plaque made by the children and the planting area that surrounds it.

“The police also shared our views that this is not behaviour typical of the Castle Caereinion area as it such a peaceful place to live.”

“The residents here are such a supportive community and will work together with vigilance to prevent further incidences."
