Electric vehicle charging points have been installed at a car parks across Powys in a bid to increase the network in Mid Wales.

The Groe car park in Builth Wells is one of nine locations that have been chosen by Powys County Council.

A number of fast electric vehicle charging points will be installed in several council-owned long stay car parks after being awarded £100,000 of funding from the UK Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles.

Other towns which are also having electric vehicle charging points installed include Llandrindod Wells, Llanidloes, Presteigne, Newtown, Welshpool and Machynlleth.

Charging points are being installed in areas which benefit Powys residents who do not have a drive or garage, and park their electric vehicle on their street. It is part of a drive to increase the use of the vehicles, with national legislation pointing to greater use of hybrid and electric engines in the future.

The charging points will also be open to the public or visitor use.
