Four new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Powys today, taking the total number since the outbreak began to 276.

The latest data from Public Health Wales shows that they were the positive results from the latest 66 tests conducted on people from the county.

It also shows that 13 people are known to have died after contracting the virus in Powys.

However, the true figure is thought to be higher, and the latest Office for National Statistics figures showing 84 people had died in the county are considered to be closer to the truth.

Across Wales, 97 more cases have been confirmed today, taking the total to 13,653 since the outbreak began, while 11 more deaths mean that 1,293 people are now known to have died after contracting the virus.

A total of 1,711 tests for coronavirus have now been conducted in Powys, of which 16.1 per cent were positive.

There have been 208 confirmed cases per 100,000 residents.

Dr Robin Howe, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “Social distancing rules remain in effect. Public Health Wales fully supports Welsh Government’s revised stay-at-home regulations.

"The message has not changed – anyone can get Covid-19, anyone can spread it. Stay home, protect the NHS, and save lives."
