Police are urging people not to set off flares during the weekly 'Clap for Carers'.

For almost two months, people across the country have stood outside their front doors on a Thursday evening to show appreciation for the frontline workers in the battle against coronavirus.

Now Llanidloes police officers have issued a plea to residents to refrain from using flares following complaints in the community.

"We appreciate that everyone wants to show their support for the NHS and key workers every Thursday evening, however, please DO NOT fire flares into the air from your homes," Llanidloes police tweeted.

"Flares are for emergencies only and setting them off in residential areas could cause serious harm/damage."
