Police forces in Powys have reminded people not to come into the county to ride on the rural roads after a weekend in which yet more coronavirus lockdown fines were dished out.

Newtown Roads Policing Unit dished out seven Covid tickets to bikers on Sunday, while their counterparts in Brecon said they had seen "many" motorbikes and cars entering the county.

Different lockdown messages and levels between England and Wales caused some problems last week as visitors headed over the border.

Newtown's Roads Policing Unit said on Twitter: "Restrictions are still in place in Wales. Please only travel if essential. Number of motorcycles entering Wales today."

Elsewhere, members of a family from Birmingham were hit with fines after heading into Powys to walk up Pen-y-Fan, and while most people driving in the Brecon Beacons were doing so legitimately, police said there were still a number of people "from well over an hour away coming for a stroll".

Dyfed-Powys Police Chief Constable Mark Collins said: "One of many examples again of people travelling miles to come to Welsh beauty spots. The Dyfed Powys policing area has the lowest number of cases of Covid-19 in Wales and we need to protect that position. Please be responsible."
