The Welsh transport minister has said that police powers could be strengthened amid concerns over the volume of traffic coming into Powys over the border.

Ken Skates has also pointed out that it is not just people coming from England who are breaking the rules - those within Wales and within Powys are too.

Answering a question from the Powys County Times at the Welsh Government's daily briefing, the minister said: "We're working very closely with police forces around Wales and on a cross-border basis, police forces in England, to try to minimise the instances of irresponsible behaviour that unfortunately we have witnessed."

Mr Skates said that people within Wales are also travelling for exercise when they should "obviously not be doing so".

He reassured people that road checks are regularly being carried out by police in Wales and that they are doing an "incredible job".

"Of course if further resource and further powers and required then we will support them in their endeavours," he said.
