THE Prime Minister says people are not to travel to Wales for a holiday or to stay at a second home during the coronavirus lockdown.

Brecon and Radnorshire MP Fay Jones asked Prime Minister Boris Johnson to confirm that alterations to the lockdown restrictions, allowing people in England to travel for exercise, were not a "green light" for tourists to stray over the border from England for a leisurely visit.

Speaking remotely via video-link to Parliament, Ms Jones said: "I'm grateful that the Prime Minister is working closely with the Welsh Government to design a four-nation approach to ending the lockdown.

"This is so important to my constituents in Brecon and Radnorshire who share a border with England. But will he agree with me that while the 'R' number continues to vary across the country, restrictions in Wales remain the same and the changes he announced last night are not a green light for tourism or for people to travel to their second homes in Wales."

Mr Johnson was in Parliament to outline and take questions on his alterations to lockdown restrictions in England. He agreed with Ms Jones that people should not be travelling into Wales for holidays or second home visits.

He said: "When you're making changes of this complexity the messaging is crucial but it is also different and she is completely right.

"Let me repeat - we do not want to see people travel to another home for a holiday or to a second home. That is not what this is about.

"This is about allowing people to take pleasure in, and the exercise of going to places, to parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty and taking advantage of the open air."
