Talented Hay on Wye Scouts have been united in creativity to pay a “moving tribute” to VE Day veterans.
The 1st Hay on Wye Scout Group have created decorations for the town’s cenotaph and Country Supplies shop to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day this Friday.
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts showed their ingenuity by creating poppies out of recycled bottles, cut out shadows of soldiers, and banners to be hung in the town centre.
The display was given an extra boost thanks to Allensmore Nurseries, Locks Garage and Golden Valley Classic Gardens which donated numerous plants.
Scout group leader Claire Bunton said she was “blown away” with what they had achieved despite social distancing.
She said: “Our Scouts, Beavers, and Cubs worked so hard to create this moving tribute to mark 75 years since VE Day.
“Despite being apart, they really come together and showed their creativity and we couldn’t be more proud of them.
“We were blown away with what they achieved, and I think their efforts really underline what Scouting is all about, bringing communities together to support and uplift each other, particularly in challenging times such as these.
“We hope the people of Hay on Wye feel it is a fitting tribute on this special anniversary of VE Day.
“We’d also like to thank all the generous businesses who kindly donated plants for the displays.”
