Two men have been charged after stealing a car and driving at up to 100mph before crashing near Brecon.

Dyfed-Powys Police responded to a report of a car being stolen in Ystradgynlais at around 7am on Friday, May 1. Officers identified the men responsible as 18-year-old Callum Samuel and 22-year-old Connaire Parsons.

Traffic officers spotted the car driving towards Brecon, with the pair reaching speeds of over 100mph before crashing near Cradoc at around 7.35am.

Samuel, of Heol y Ffynnon in Brecon, and Parsons, of Ritson Street in Briton Ferry, made off from the car and ran into woodland. A two hour search was carried out, involving officers from the dog unit, response teams and the NPAS helicopter.

The two men were arrested within 10 minutes of each other, and taken to custody where they were later charged.

Samuel – the driver – was charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving with no insurance.

Parsons was charged with aggravated vehicle taking and driving with no insurance.

Both have been remanded in custody to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday, May 18 for sentencing, having entered guilty pleas.
