Trading standards teams are investigating after a vulnerable woman from Llandrindod Wells paid out nearly £1,300 to a builder to repair her flood damaged home – who did not complete the work.

The Trading Standards Service at Powys County Council is investigating the incident. 

“They are concerned that there may be a pattern of trading here and are asking anyone who has any information about suspicious activity, whether themselves or related to family or neighbours, to report the matter,” a council spokesman said.

Mid Wales was hit badly by storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge a few months ago, with many people’s homes and businesses across Powys left being left flood damaged. 

There is support available which the county council is signposting people to. 

For example, if you home has been intensely affected by the flooding you may be eligible for some relief from your council tax bill. 

If your businesses has been impacted by the adverse weather then you may qualify for some help with your business rates.
