Emergency services joined The Rhallt Care Home in its Clap for Carers last night after a number of its residents died with the virus.

Members of the local police, ambulance service and fire service all joined at 8pm outside the home to put their hands together for key workers and to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives due to coronavirus.

Local photographer Phil Blagg captured the moment, in which staff at the home were joined by other key workers as well as members of the public.

Residents can also be seen smiling as they look out the windows, unable to go outside, taking in the applause.

Welshpool police said on Twitter: "A pleasure to attend The Rhallt in Welshpool to #ClapForCarers during these difficult times."

At the end of last week it was confirmed by bosses of the care home, Barchester Healthcare, that a number of residents had died with the virus.

A Barchester spokesman said: "We can confirm that we have had individuals confirmed with COVID-19, and tragically some of those have sadly passed away.

"Every one of these deaths is a tragedy for all of us, and we send our heartfelt condolences to our residents, their families and our staff that have suffered."
