PLANS have been submitted to build a tourist development between Aberhafesp and Caersws.

The applicant, Mr Nissamdeen from Newtown wants to build three holiday cabins at Clear Wood Field just off the B4568 road.

Agent Geraint Jones of McCartney’s planning and survey, explained the proposal in a design and access statement.

Mr Jones said: “The area is a rural location, however the site benefits from the close proximity to the neighbouring villages of Caersws and Aberhafesp and the town of Newtown.”

Mr Jones said that the cabins could be classed as mobile homes and are “compliant” with the caravan act, and can be taken away if necessary.

Mr Jones continued: “New tourist development is encouraged because of its contribution to the economy in terms of visitor spending, supporting local business and employment generation.

“The scheme’s contribution to tourism particularly in a rural setting is of great benefit to the area as a whole.

“The design of the proposal would not adversely detract from the beautiful scenery and surrounding area.”

The documents add that Mr Nisamdeen lets the field to farmers who use it for grazing at the moment. The proposal would only use a third of the field.

If the application is successful the remaining land would become wildflower meadows to “further enhance” the biodiversity of the area.

According to the statement, Mr Nisamdeen has owned the land for a “significant period of time” and had hoped to build houses there, but was unsuccessful in having it added to the local development plan as an allocated site for development.

Mr Jones explained: “This was unsuccessful due to the location between the villages of Caersws and Aberhafesp.

“However as part of the process the professional lead at the time was extremely helpful and advised Mr Nisamdeen to look into the tourism route should he wish to develop the site.”
