A HALF marathon at a Powys beauty spot has been cancelled due to coronavirus - but the event has been pencilled in for next year.

The organisers of the annual Lake Vyrnwy Half-Marathon, have reluctantly taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 race, which was due to take place on Sunday, September 13.

David Thomas, chair of the local organising committee, said: "Even if things are 'back to normal' by September, it is now that we have to make all the arrangements with a number of companies and, in the current climate, no-one is able to commit themselves to providing what we need to ensure that the race takes place.

"We know this will be a blow both to the elite runners and to the hundreds who take part primarily to collectively raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities each year but we look forward to welcoming everybody back for next year's race on Sunday, September 12, 2021."
