Two more coronavirus cases have been found in Powys – but health chiefs are still waiting for more information on cases found in England that would add to the tally.

The latest new cases take the overall number of confirmed virus cases in Powys to 96.

But the figures do not take into account people from Powys that are diagnosed in England, which given the importance of Shrewsbury, Hereford and Telford's hospitals to the county could mean many cases are not included in the current number.

Across Wales there have been 272 more cases to bring the current total to 6,118.

Sixty more people have died having tested positive for Covid-19, taking the number of deaths in Wales to 463.

“We are aware that the number of deaths reported today is regrettably much higher than yesterday, however it is worth noting that day-to-day fluctuations are to be expected," said Dr Giri Shankar, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus outbreak response at Public Health Wales.

Dr Shankar also encouraged people to use a new symptom tracking app allowing users to log their symptoms to build up a picture of how many people have the disease.

In Powys, 1696 people are using it, and the data suggests 1.9 per cent of people now have the virus – equating to about 2,500 people.

“We are encouraging everyone to download the Covid-19 Symptom Tracker app, which has been supported by Welsh Government," said Dr Shankar.

"The app allows users to log daily symptoms to help build a clearer picture of how the virus is affecting people. For more information, including how to download the app, visit covid.joinzoe.com."
