Five new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Powys, taking the total number in the county to 94 – but health bosses still believe there may be significantly more.

The latest cases in the county are among 238 recorded across Wales today, bringing the country's tally to 5,848.

Nineteen more people have also died, meaning that 403 people in the country have now died while suffering from coronavirus.

Dr Robin Howe, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: "Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is now circulating in every part of Wales. The single most important action we can all take in fighting Coronavirus is to stay at home in order to protect the NHS, and save lives.

“We want to thank each and every person across Wales for doing their bit to help slow the spread of the virus."

The true number of people in Powys with the disease is likely to be considerably higher than the 94 on the official data, because cases recorded in hospitals in England are not included on the stats.

Furthermore, only 365 tests have so far been carried out on people from the county, despite efforts to increase testing.
