Damage has been caused to a Mid Wales football ground - days after the club warned people to keep off its pitch.

Llanidloes Town FC said a large gate had been lifted off its hinges at Victoria Park sometime between Friday, April 10, and Monday, April 13.

"Some mindless, selfish, ignorant people have now seen fit to cause criminal damage in their efforts to gain entry," tweeted Llanidloes Town FC.

"We find it disturbing that people would go to such lengths as to break a gate to ignore government lockdown rules and gather together for a kickabout."

The club said security measures will be put in place such as securing the gate, and asking local police officers and committee members to call by on their daily walks to check on the ground.

They added: "The main worry is the flouting of the social distancing rules. We just want everyone to be safe and whoever these people are, they are showing a blatant disregard to the local community."

On Friday, the club asked members of the public to keep off the pitch after reports that people were scaling fences for a kickabout during the coronavirus lockdown.
