FAMILIES are being warned not to travel for any pre-planned vacations over the Easter holidays or face a fine.

And that warning is also being further extended, with people being advised to cancel any existing holiday bookings they’ve made for the next 12 weeks.

Carmarthenshire County Council, along with Dyfed Powys Police, are warning people to stick to the government guidelines and stay at home to save lives or face being turned back and issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice.

The move comes in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and helping to reduce its transmission.

Families who have second or holiday homes must also comply and remain at their primary residence.

The public, as well as the police and council, are continuing to adjust to the new measures put in place by the Government during these unprecedented times.

Carmarthenshire County Council leader Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “Our main priority is to protect our communities and help prevent the spread of the virus. The majority of people are abiding by the guidelines and I’d like to thank them for that.

“However, there is a minority that appear to be ignoring Government advice and continue to travel non-essentially. This is not acceptable and anyone who is caught doing this in South West Wales will be directed back home or may even face a fine.

“These are extremely challenging times for all of us but our main priority is to stop the spread of this outbreak and keep our loved ones safe – it is something we can all play a part in. Protect our community from infection, protect yourselves and reduce transmission by staying home.”

Families are also been advised to cancel any existing holiday bookings they’ve made for the next 12 weeks.
