POWYS politicians have joined those sending their best wishes to the Prime Minister after he was hospitalised with coronavirus.

Boris Johnson was admitted to hospital for tests on Sunday, and stayed in overnight. He has been experiencing "persistent" coronavirus symptoms for 10 days.

After the news broke on Sunday night, several Powys politicians took to social media to wish Mr Johnson well.

Conservative Brecon and Radnorshire MP, Fay Jones said: “In case anyone was in any doubt, this virus does not mess about.

“Best wishes to the PM and enormous thanks to the amazing #NHS staff taking care of everyone tonight.”

Powys County Council portfolio holder for  Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Housing and Regulatory Services, Cllr James Evans (Conservative – Gwernyfed) said: “Wishing Boris Johnson a  speedy recovery the county needs your leadership now more than ever!”

PCC planning committee chairman, Cllr Karl Lewis (Conservative – Llandinam), said: “All the best Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Let us hope you have a speedy recovery.”

Members of other parties also sent messages.

PCC chairman of the learning and skills scrutiny committee, Cllr Pete Roberts (Liberal Democrat – Llandrindod South) said: “I may disagree with a person’s politics but would never wish ill of them at this time.

“Good luck @10DowningStreet for a speedy recovery for the Prime Minister and every one else at home or in hospital fighting this virus.”

Liberal Democrat leader in Wales and former Brecon and Radnorshire MP Jane Dodds, added: “Best wishes Boris Johnson, I hope you make a speedy recovery.

“My thoughts and prayers are with you.”

On Monday, April 6 the Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab led the coronavirus meeting and ministers said that Mr Johnson, despite his illness, was very much “in charge".
