The increase in online shopping during the coronavirus outbreak has led to a surprising revelation for some people in Powys – their homes don't officially exist.

A number of people in Powys have complained to the council that their address is not being recognised by online retailers, making it harder for them to receive deliveries.

Powys Council's cabinet member responsible for regulatory services, James Evans, said there was a solution for those who have found themselves dropping off the map, however.

He said: "If you find that your address is not registered our street naming team will aim to prioritise your request but please be aware that the Royal Mail may take at least five days to update their records.

"Until your address is registered we recommend that you speak – via the telephone or online – to your family or neighbours for support.

“If you are unsure about your address or need any assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.”

You can visit www.royalmail.com/business/find-a-postcode to see if your address is listed, and if not then send an email to buildingcontrol@powys.gov.uk with your address and details explaining the situation or telephone 01874 612290.

When you formally register your address with the Powys Council street naming team the address is then listed with the emergency services, for online services such as food deliveries and the Royal Mail.
