Police have continued to roll out new powers today aimed at keeping people off the streets amid the coronavirus crackdown.

Dyfed-Powys Police units have been in action across the county – with some saying they have encountered some unusual responses from members of the public trying to justify being out.

Newtown Roads Policing Unit said on Twitter: "Number of people turned around and told to go home.

"Lying you have groceries in your boot for for your vulnerable family member that you didn't even know the name for."

And police from Llanidloes moved on a caravan from Hafren Forest that was registered in Scotland.

Fortunately, others seem to have got the message.

Welshpool Police tweeted a picture of the town centre on Saturday night showing deserted streets with the caption: "Thank you for staying at home and helping to save lives."

Powers created this week allow police to send home anybody who is out and about on a non-essential journey.

Fines of £60 can be issued against people for non-essential travel – a sum which can double on each subsequent offence.

Brecon Roads Policing has been continuing to patrol the Brecon Beacons, sending home one driver who had parked at a roadblock.
