People in Mid Wales came out in full force last night as they stood in their doorways, balconies, of out of windows to clap in support of the NHS and care workers.

Hundreds if not thousands of people across the UK took part in Clap For Our Carers, at 8pm on Thursday, March 26, to make noise for those fighting at the frontline of coronavirus.

Dutch Londoner, Annemarie Plas, was one of them. She came up with the idea after seeing people back home in the Netherlands doing the same.

In Mid Wales, people took to social media to share videos and messages in support of the movement.

People across Powys took part in the Clap for Our Carers - including County Times reporters living in Kerry and Guilsfield. Elsewhere across the county, people in Knighton and Prestigne took part - showing that it's not just the packed streets of cities taking part - but rural communities too.

Ben Fides, from Newtown, wrote on Twitter: "Quite a poignant moment out on the street clapping for the NHS. Good to see plenty of others out clapping and cheering here in Newtown. Lovely to see solidarity being shown in what has become a very fractured society in recent years."

In Welshpool, people joined in but not only putting their hands together, but also by tieing blue ribbons, in NHS blue, outside their homes, to show their support of the health service.

The idea was started by Susan Byrne on the Facebook group Welshpool Melting Pot and it gained a hugely positive response. Although, she did acknowledge that not everyone would have blue ribbon to hand - and urged people to use anything blue they had in their homes to put outside on show.
