The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Powys remains at eight, Public Health Wales confirmed today - but the body also admitted the true number will be higher.

There have been 21 new confirmed cases across Wales, and a third person in the country has died from the disease today – in Bridgend.

But while Powys's official figure remains at eight cases, Dr Giri Shankar, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said the true number is likely to be considerably higher.

“Three people in Wales who tested positive for Novel Coronavirus have now died," Dr Shankar said.

“Twenty-one new cases have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 191, although the true number of cases is likely to be higher.

“Covid-19 is now circulating in every part of Wales."

The latest guidance from Public Health Wales is that those who live with others should stay at home for 14 days if anyone in the household has a high temperature or a new and continuous cough, and those who live alone should stay at home for seven days if they experience those symptoms.

Everyone should avoid non-essential contact with others and unnecessary travel, work from home where they possibly can, and avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and social venues

People over 70, and vulnerable groups of any age will be asked within days to be shielded from social contact for several weeks.
