Russell George has been re-selected as the Conservative candidate for Montgomeryshire in next year's Welsh Assembly Elections.

Mr George, who has been an AM since 2011, was reselected by his local party at its annual general meeting on Saturday, February 29, which was held at Trefeglwys Community Centre.

He said: “It's good to have the support of my local party, but I do of course need to convince the people of Montgomeryshire that I'm the right person to represent them in the Welsh Parliament next May.

“I have really good staff that support me in my office, and I hope that between me and my team we have tried our best to help people with issues raised with me and my office.

“I feel passionate about our area, that’s why I got involved in politics locally. I wouldn’t want to represent any other area. I was born in Welshpool, went to primary school in Clatter and Caersws and attended Newtown High School."

The Conservative AM is the Shadow Minister for the Economy and Transport, and his role as spokesperson for the Welsh Conservative Assembly Group also includes responsibility for Culture, Tourism and Sport.

Former Conservative MP Glyn Davies was also elected as the president of the Montgomeryshire Conservative Association.
