THE Elan Valley is the most Instagrammed place in Wales with 10 times as many pictures taken than the Llanberis Pass in Snowdonia, according to figures released this week.

Data commissioned by Click4reg.co.uk on the "most Intagrammed" road trip in the UK gave the Elan Valley 36,923 tags, compared with 3,447 for the Llanberis Pass, and just 902 for the Coastal Way Cardigan Bay.

"Road trips are an increasingly popular way of discovering and experiencing new countries, and how good your trip looks 'on the gram' is very important in an age where everything must be captured," said a spokesman.

"This research was done by collecting 15 of the best-known roads and trips around the UK and then judging which is the most Instamgrammed by analysing the number of hashtags for each road trip with #name and #name+road trip."

Wales was the country in the UK with the most road trips in the list with five trips including EVO Triangle Northen Wales on 4,383 tags and the Black Mountain Pass, Llandovery to Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen on 828.

But leading the field is the North Coast 500 in Northern Scotland, on 88,287 tags, and the Cheddar Gorge in Somerset on 59,980, ahead of Elan Valley in third place.

A survey last year also showed the Rhayader to Aberystwyth A4120 road was identified as Wales's quietest scenic A-road with an average of only 431 vehicles driving along the route each day.

Beth Rees, project officer for Elan Links, commented: "It's an incredible figure but it is no wonder want to stop here a grab pictures with the dams and the wonderful countryside we have as well as the tranquility. That's what people come here to enjoy and it is good to see this sort of confirmation of its attraction."
