FIFTEEN intrepid runners braved Storm Dennis to run 60km across Montgomeryshire in aid of charity.

The fellowship was led by Rhys Phillips from Forden and ran running a staggering combined total of 318km in aid of the Movember Foundation.

The 60km represented the 60 men who commit suicide every hour world wide, often a consequence of poor mental health and men avoiding opening up about their thoughts and feelings.

The Movember Foundation works to change this and support groups which provide opportunities for men to speak openly about their feelings and provide physical exercise while also funding innovative research into Prostate and Testicular cancer.

Rhys said: “I had 14 people running legs alongside me, of which six people ran further than they’d ever run before with seven running a half marathon distance while George Davies ran an incredible 35km leg during the day.”

Rhys completed his 60km leg in six hours and 26 minutes despite the best efforts of Storm Dennis.

Rhys said: “It made the logistics of getting runners to the start and end of legs a nightmare and we had to re-route mid run to finish in Welshpool rather than Berriew due to the main road being closed.

The Forden fundraiser has now increased his contribution to the cause to £1,170 and anyone wishing to donate can do so at https://mobro.co/13635889.
