NEWTOWN said goodbye to the Knife Angel sculpture as it moved on to Northumbria.
The Angel has been stood outside the Oriel Davies Gallery for January, utilised as an important point of tuition for youngsters. Newtown was the first official Welsh location to host the monument.
The town really embraced the Angel, creating a full calendar of programmes during its visit, fully using the Angel for 28-days of intensive educational workshops and programmes, committed to deputising a minimum of 10,000 young people to stand up against violent behaviour by becoming an official ‘Anti-Violence Champion’.
As part of the ‘Agreement of Conscience’, Newtown is required to provide a post appraisal report on how the Angel benefited the location and what will happen to continue efforts to turn the tide on violence and aggression.
A Knife Angel ‘Closing Ceremony’ took place, starting at the Monty Club on Saturday. The public procession began along Broad Street and up through the park gates before arriving at the Knife Angel. Here, a short vigil took place to honour and remember anyone lost or affected by violence.
