PARAMEDICS rushed to the scene of a medical emergency at Mayflower Theatre, which put a temporary stop to a performance in the sell out run of We Will Rock You last night.

A member of the audience was taken ill during the Ben Elton penned show, a futuristic tale set to the music of rock icons Queen, which was halted for an hour and 20 minutes. Treatment was initially given by theatre first aiders and then paramedics on their arrival soon after.

A spokesman said: "Mayflower Theatre staff first aiders attended the customer straight away and paramedics arrived shortly afterwards.

"The show was paused whilst the customer was treated. After the customer was taken to hospital, the show resumed.

"At the present time we have no further information on the customer and we hope that they make a full recovery."

The audience member, believed to be a woman, is thought to have walked to the waiting ambulance and been taken to hospital for further observation.

Customers have praised Mayflower staff for their speed and professionalism in dealing with the incident, which took place in the balcony area of the theatre.

We Will Rock You continues its sold out run until Saturday night.
