Motorists driving along a busy road had reported seeing a man walking in the highway shortly before he was involved in a fatal collision, it was revealed at the opening of an inquest.

Sion Gears, 48, died after being hit by a Suzuki Swift on the A534 road at Llanypwll, Wrexham, in the early hours of January 12.

At a brief hearing in Ruthin John Gittins, coroner for North Wales East and Central, said he had been informed by North Wales Police that a number of members of the public had tried to report seeing a man wearing dark clothing who was walking in the carriageway.      

Mr Gears, of nearby Plas Goulbourne, was certified dead at the scene despite CPR having been administered by the driver of the Suzuki which hit him and paramedics.

The inquest was adjourned to a full hearing to be held after the police have concluded their investigation.
