The search for a man who entered a river in Newtown entered its fourth day on Monday.

The Brecon Mountain Rescue Team and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue crews continued the search on the River Severn.

Dyfed-Powys Police, who are leading the multi-agency search operation, said: "The man's family has been notified and is being kept informed of developments in the search".

Police received a call concerned for the safety of the man who entered the river on Broad Street at 11.25am on Friday, January 17.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team shared on social media photos of the river search. The team's swift water technicians, bank search team, kayak search team and drone pilots took part in the search in Newtown.

Emergency service teams from Newtown, Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion, Montgomery, Aberystwyth, Hay-on-Wye, Swansea, Carmarthen and Shrewsbury searched the River Severn near Aberbechan Bridge and Abermule Bridge on Friday.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: “Following a report of a man entering the river at 11.25am on Friday 17th January 2020 a multi-agency search operation led by Dyfed-Powys Police is taking place. 

"Personnel from Mid and West Fire and Rescue Service and Brecon Mountain Rescue Team are assisting in the search coordinated by a Police Search Adviser. 

"Water borne searches are continuing on the River Severn today."
