The steering group behind the Dementia Friendly Oswestry initiative will host its first meeting of 2020 on Wednesday, January 15.

The meeting will take place at Oswestry Library from 2.30pm.

The initiative was launched in the town to help improve the lives of those affected by dementia by getting organisations to take action as it is estimated to affect around 225 people in the town with one third not being diagnosed.

Val Brown, from the group, said: "We are very keen for more members to join us to bring about changes in the way people view dementia.

"Many people living with dementia become frightened of going out, they worry they might catch the wrong bus, forget why they went into a shop, or just feel lost.

"We want to change this so that people with dementia remain full engaged in their usual activities and social contacts.

"Help us to make Oswestry Dementia Friendly and join the business and shops that have had a dementia friendly session and then you will be able to display a sign in your windows so that people with dementia will know they will be looked after and helped."

If you apply to join Dementia Friendly Oswestry you will be supplied with a supporter pack.
