The third Repair Cafe in Oswestry saw the Memorial Hall jam-packed as people brought in all sorts of broken items.

The bi-monthly event, which alternates with a sister event in Llanfyllin, encourages people to get broken household items repaired instead of throwing them away – and even gives them the chance to learn how to make future repairs.

Items brought in on Saturday included bikes, clocks, lamps, scooters, chairs and much more.

Elaine Locke, one of the organisers, said: “People were here before we opened the doors, they were queuing up!

“It’s about thinking ‘can I fix this’ first instead of putting it in landfill, we need to get away from that and to note throwaway items that are fixable.”

Those volunteering include ex-professionals and those with a keen interest in certain areas who volunteer their time in lieu of donations.

They now PAT test all electrical items fixed.

Alison Alexander also organises the event with Diana Allen and Nikki Locke.

She said: "It's nice because everybody does a little bit so nobody feels overwhelmed.

"We have 22 repairers here today which is great.

"Last time at Llanfyllin we had to turn people away, so we want them to know that if they let us know we will bump them up the queue when we return."

The next date is at Llanfyllin Institute on Saturday, February 1 between 12noon and 3pm.
