The Welsh Liberal Democrats Leader Jane Dodds has lost Brecon and Radnorshire to the Conservatives, becoming one of the shortest serving MPs in recent political history.
Fay Jones won the seat with 21,958 votes, with Jane Dodds receiving 14,827 votes. This makes her a joint-first Welsh female Conservative MP.
Ms Jones said that at times this election has been “difficult and divisive” but that the candidates have been “kind, courteous and a pleasure to work with” - particularly Jane Dodds.
She said that it's really hard to describe how she feels but that she's "grateful to everyone" who voted for her.
Jane Dodds, who won the seat from Chris Davies in the August by-election, thanked the team she's had as a MP and on the campaign trail. "I could not have asked for a better team. You have been phenomenal," she said.
"We have a Conservative majority government and I fear for the poor and vulnerable in our country," Ms Dodds said.
She said she also has concerns for the climate emergency and the rural communities of Mid Wales.
Ms Dodds said that she hopes the "heal the divisions in our society" and speak up for "those people who need it the most and who do not have a voice in our society".
