A pair of fundraisers have launched their bid to raise £1,800 each ahead of a Women v Cancer Bike Ride in Italy.

Jeanette Pierpoint from Bronygarth and Tina Carter from Weston Rhyn will cycle 350km in three days from Milan to Venice in October 2020.

They launched their fundraising on Sunday evening with a barbecue and Christmas fair in Bronygarth, which raised £2,000.

Jeanette said: “We are doing it in memory of Karen Pierpoint who died from breast cancer. Tina’s daughter is married to Karen’s son and Karen was my sister-in-law.

“We wanted to do something at the time so we did Ride the Night in London, but now we want to do something bigger.”

Tina continued: “We’d never really done much cycling before that, so this ride is a bit scary.

“You can’t just do 80 miles on three consecutive days so we’ve got some training to do.”

The pair said they were "thrilled" with the amount raise at their Christmas fair, and thanked all the stalls for their support, as well as PJ Scaffolding, Olive's Event Bar, Simon Greaves and the Bronygarth Committee for putting up the yurts, Ozloos, BJ Gas, Griffiths Tool Hire, Adam Jenkinson for the barbecue, Melissa Collinson who sang on the night, as well as all their helpers and those who donated raffle prizes.

They added: "We would also like to thank our husbands Simon and Ian without their hard work and support we couldn’t have done it."

Jeanette and Tina will be continuing with their fundraising efforts throughout 2020 so keep an eye out for any future events.
