A man who has regularly used cannabis for around 10 years has been banned from driving for a year, Welshpool Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday, November 26.

Ryan John Humphreys, 27, or The Meadows, Abermule, admitted having 8.4ug/l of the primary active component of cannabis in his blood.

The prosecution said that the defendant was pulled over on New Road in Montgomery on July 12 as part of a routine check.

Humphreys defended himself. He said that he has regularly cannabis for around 10 years and that it did not have an impact on his driving or on his career.

He spoke of having a child on the way and the thought of being unable to take his partner to the hospital for the birth.

Stephen Pembroke, chair of the bench, said: “If you didn’t use cannabis you wouldn’t be here today.”

Magistrates also fined Humphreys £370. He also had to pay victim surcharge and victim surcharge, bringing his total costs owed to the court to £503.

Mr Pembroke said he should get help from the drug and alcohol rehabilitation service Kaleidoscope, especially as he has a family on the way. “We want you to sort it,” he said.
