“WHAT’S really great about the show is that it brings the whole community together.”

1960s Baltimore headed to Llanfair Caereinion this week as an 80-strong cast of Caereinion High School pupils performed their first musical in years.

‘Hairspray Jr’ is the fun-filled musical piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and tuneful songs.

In balancing her newfound power with her desire for justice, Tracy Turnblad played by Gwennan Smith fights to dethrone the reigning Miss Teen Hairspray, Amber von Tussle, played by Lwsi Roberts and integrate a TV network in the process.

“There’s a few surprises,” said Lowri Williams, Head of Drama and English. “Do come along, you won’t be disappointed, you’ll be singing along as you leave the hall!”

The three performances took place at Caereinion Leisure Centre from 7pm on November 26, 27 and 28.

We’ve all been working really hard but what’s really great about the show ‘Hairspray’ is that it brings the whole community of the school together. There’s about 80 in the cast. There’s a band of 10 people, there’s all the technology department, art department, lots of teachers and parents are doing costumes, hair, make-up and props. Everything’s coming together this week ready for the performances.

We’ve done some workshops for primary schools as well. 10-week stint of rehearsals. It’s a really fun-filled, family show which will get everyone on their feet, clapping and dancing.

It’s great the school’s doing a whole school musical again from years seven to 13. Everyone has really got involved and hopefully we will have lots coming to watch us next week.

I urge you to phone the school.
