Whilst knee deep in mud on a warm Summer’s day run, Ian Morgan, a firefighter from Llandrindod Wells Fire Station, thought that the route would be ideal for a Muddy Santa Fun Run in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity.

With a choice of three distances of 2km, 5km and 10km, hundreds of Santas will bring a flash of red to those muddy puddles to spread festive fun and burn some cheeky calories before the Christmas Holidays.

The family friendly event will take place on Sunday, December 1, and starts and finishes at Llandrindod Wells Fire Station.

Starting at 10.30am, the Santas will go through some beautiful countryside and mud, before returning to a large indoor ‘warm zone’ for a mince pie and coffee.

Over 100 entries have currently been received from all over Wales to the Isle of Wight and a couple of International Santas have entered from New Zealand, who will be over here on holiday.

Staff from the Principality Building Society in Llandrindod Wells are entering the Muddy Santa Fun Run and are raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Alzheimer’s Society.

Tom Miles, Branch Manager, said: “All of us at the branch are really excited and looking forward to getting muddy and having some fun during the event. We will be raising money in our branch and the lead up to the event for two charities which are close to our heart.”

Another organisation signed up for the Muddy Santa Fun Run is Dementia Matters in Powys.

Deborah Gerrard, chief officer, said: “We are taking part in Muddy Santa to raise awareness and increase understanding of Dementia.

“We provide advice, support and information and run four meeting centres across the county for people living with dementia and their loved ones and carers. We are looking forward to getting really muddy!”

Entries for the Muddy Santa are still available, and the cost includes a free Santa costume! It’s £13 for the 10k route, £12 for the 5k route and £8 for the £2k route.
