The Montgomeryshire candidate for the Liberal Democrats has expressed his shock after receiving an anonymous letter telling him to 'Go to Hell'.
Kishan Devani said the letter was left at the Liberal Democrat office in Newtown.
"This is what our country has come to", Mr Devani said. "The abuse we face is vile."
He added: "As the son of refugees, I know first hand where this type of behaviour can take a country."
This is what our country has come to. Left at our @LibDems Office in #Montgomeryshire. The abuse we face is vile. Please we must stop this. As the Son of Refugees, I know first hand where this type of behaviour can take a country. #PleaseStop #Sad #UniteNotDivide

Written in capital letters, the note says "Go to hell the A.L.A.D. Party Anti-Liberal Anti-Democracy Party Devani get lost and take ***** idiot with you."
William Powell, president of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, said anonymous letter writers, regardless of their political standing, should be condemned.
"This is despicable - especially directed to Kishan Devani, an honourable and deeply humanitarian person, keen to work in the national interest and to help the communities he seeks to serve."
He added: "Anonymous letter writers and Twitter trolls on EVERY side should be condemned."
