QUIZ superstar Jenny Ryan has joined the lineup for tonight’s spectacular Bolton Christmas lights switch-on.

The brain-box is best known for lighting up our screens with her incredible general knowledge on hit ITV gameshow, ‘The Chase’.

Currently a contestant on the celebrity version of the X-Factor, Bolton-born Jenny will be able to compare notes with Ray Quinn, who was a finalist on the regular competition in 2006 and who will be the one to flick the switch to mark the start of Bolton’s festive season.

Ray will also be appearing in the Albert Hall’s pantomime of Aladdin throughout December.

Jenny, nicknamed ‘The Vixen’ on The Chase, will be performing a short set ahead of the switch-on, using her talented musical skills which have wowed audiences in recent weeks.

Her performances have included powerful renditions of songs such as “The Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga. She had previously been kicked off the show, although a backlash from fans is believed to have seen Simon Cowell invite her back on.

The switch-on event, sponsored by Market Place Shopping Centre, is expected to attract thousands to Victoria Square for an evening of music and entertainment, climaxing in a firework display.

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Hilary Fairclough, said:

“The Christmas lights switch-on is always a great opportunity to get in the festive spirit and showcase local musical talent.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming Jenny home and we wish her the very best for the rest of the competition.”

The main festive show starts at 5pm in Victoria Square, compered by Jon Holling from Tower FM.

Other key highlights from the night will include the popular Rock Choir returning to sing three songs.

A performance from community dance group Bolton Allstarz Children’s Workshop will kick off the show, followed by 10-year-old singer Kallea, from Bolton Dance and Performing Arts College, who has co-written songs with international songwriter Darren Martyn.

There will also be live entertainment in the Market Place from 3pm

There will be free parking after 3pm in the Octagon, Topp Way and Deane Road NCP multi-storey car parks on the night. The weeknight offer will continue during the festive season.
