THE second monthly clothing exchange event in Wrexham has gone from strength to strength, thanks to public support.

The ‘Swop Not Shop’ event, which was first held on October 12, has enjoyed continued success with large turnout to their second exchange, despite the weather conditions.

The second exchange took place at the Wrexham Enterprise Hub on Queen Square and resulted in over 700 items being swapped - with many more extra saved from ending up in landfills.

Sharon Rogers, Wrexham Clothing Exchange organiser, who said they now have 200 members, said: “Considering the day was the day the snow came down, to get the same amount of people as last time is a tremendous result.

“We know it was tough for people to get in, we had two volunteers who sent pictures of how snowed in they were.

“We welcomed almost 75 new faces on Saturday (November 9).

“So a huge thanks to everyone who braved the weather to come and join in with the exchange. We had a great day and hope you did too.

“Massive thanks to our volunteers who worked hard all day for the love of the cause - we couldn’t do this without them.”

Participants of the exchange pay a £3 entry fee, which enables the non-profit venture to be able to afford clothing storage, rails and equipment in the future.

Ms Rogers, added: “We’d like to extend our thanks to Gareth Jones, Carl Turner, Pete Rogers, Lizzie Stone and all at the Wrexham Enterprise Hub for their support, as well as being our venue.

“Tony Eccles from Prime Lens Photography, Jayne Francis-Headon from Live Green with Rosadonna for clothing repairs, Abode Above and Sports Direct for the loan of clothing rails and our friends at King Street Coffee Company and Bank Street Social Wrexham, who again kindly supported our the event by offering 50 per cent off their hot drinks for our swappers.

“[Also] Andrew Parker and AWP Services for their help with logistics and coming to the rescue when a volunteer’s van broke down.

“We will see you all on the December 7 (third event, starting at 12pm) and Christmas outfits are optional.”
