A WREXHAM Orthopaedic Surgeon has been praised by his patients for helping them back on their feet and improving their quality of life.

Knee surgeon, Mr Yogesh Joshi, has recently received a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ award after achieving five-star ratings from patients on the UK’s healthcare review site, iWantGreatCare.

The Wrexham Maelor Consultant is a knee specialist and deals with a broad range of knee problems, from major knee trauma to elective knee cases.

Karen Davies, 63, a former Theatre Nurse at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, who was struggling to care for her husband, who lives with dementia, due to the pain in her knee says she is extremely grateful for the surgery she received.

She said: “I was a nurse for over 40 years and the last 20 of those were spent as a Theatre Nurse in the Maelor.

“Unfortunately due to the arthritis in my knee I retired as the pain was excruciating and it was impacting on my day to day job and also on the care I was able to provide my husband.”

Karen underwent a half knee replacement in August 2018 and in the last year has been able to enjoy a holiday abroad as well as take trips out with her husband.

She added: “I am extremely grateful for the care I received at the Maelor, I wasn’t in hospital for long and I was only on crutches for a week when I returned home.

“I now have my quality of life back and I can enjoy taking my husband for days out again, which I was unable to do before as I struggled to drive.

“I’m so pleased with the outcome and cannot thank Mr Joshi enough, as well as his team. The outpatient appointments and the physio team have also been great following the surgery.”

Keiran Thomas, 28, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right bowed leg after a football injury, says he is extremely grateful to Mr Joshi for enabling him to return to his full duties as a Paramedic for the Welsh Ambulance Service.

Keiran underwent a combined anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction along with realignment surgery (high tibial osteotomy) on his knee in March 2019 at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

He said: “I cannot fault the care I received from Mr Joshi and his team and I’m not surprised he has received an award for the care he provides for his patients. He is a very polite man and put me at ease straight away.

“I have seen a massive improvement since my surgery and I’m really pleased I have been able to start running again.”

Mr Joshi, who has been a Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant at Wrexham Maelor Hospital since 2016, said: “I am really pleased to hear Karen and Keiran are doing well following their surgery and I also would like to thank them for their kind words about the treatment they’ve received.

“We take great pride in the quality of care offered to our patients and I work very closely with an excellent multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes.

“It is wonderful to be recognised by the iWantGreatCare website and to see all the positive reviews left by our patients which I’m sure will be beneficial for future patients.”
