A NEW era has rung out as Llanfair Caereinion welcomes its first Town Crier in years.

Looking resplendent in full regalia made in the colours of Powys Tartan, David Salter was officially appointed by the town council.

Mr Salter, who recently moved to Manchester House, said he is “honoured” to take on the role.

“Being from the City of Lichfield, which maintains its historical legacies, I am very familiar with just how much pageantry and pomp can add to all types of ceremony and event.”

He added: “Llanfair has a long and fascinating history so I suggested that the role might be made official in order that the traditions and heritage could be supported and thereby enhance the experience of the many visitors and tourists who come to Llanfair.”

The town council agreed that a town crier would be an “excellent addition to an already thriving community”.

The first official function will be at the town’s Christmas Lights switch-on on Friday, December 6.
