After two years of growing his hair, Carl Gannon shaved it all off – and raised well over £1000 for the Wales Air Ambulance.

Carl visited Welshpool Airport to present the cheque for £1,377 to the crew of Helimed 59.

Andrew Hall, community fundraising manager, said: “We are very grateful to Carl for supporting Wales Air Ambulance. I am aware that Carl raises a lot of money for charity and we were lucky enough to be his chosen charity on this occasion.

“We have to raise £6.5 million each year to keep our helicopters flying, and it is only through people like Carl raising money that we are able to continue this lifesaving service. I hope that we can work with Carl again in the future.”

Carl grew his hair out for two years, having not cut it for two years since shaving it off for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital; where he had heart surgery.

The hair and beard shave this year took place at The Angel pub in Welshpool on Friday, August 16.

The Wales Air Ambulance charity provides emergency air cover for everyone in Wales, 365 days a year.

From four airbases, including the one Carl visited in Welshpool, the crew can reach anywhere in Wales in 20 minutes.
