A LLANFAIR Caereinion man has received a national high commendation award for his volunteering work with blind children and adults.

Bob Lowrie, 66, attended an event in London after he was nominated and shortlisted for the Volunteer of the Year award by the UK Third Sector Awards and UK Charity Awards.

Since 2016, Bob has volunteered with VICTA (Empowering Blind Children and Young Adults). The charity offers activities and support for children and their families, helping to build networks, confidence and personal independence.

Bob has assisted with family weekends, trips to Wales, Spain and numerous activities in England. It is all done in his own time and takes him away from home for at least five weeks within the year.
