A POWYS County Council cabinet member has stepped down from Llanidloes Town Council.

Cllr Phyl Davies said that he no longer has the time or availability to serve as elected councillor for the town.

The Conservative county councillor for Blaen Hafren was recently appointed as Powys County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Property after serving as Cabinet Member for Highways, Recycling and Assets.

At a town council meeting on Monday, October 28, a letter from Cllr Davies was read out by the Mayor of Llanidloes, Cllr Janet Crisp.

The letter said: “What has become apparent through the recent attendance stats is that I simply no longer have the time or availability to serve as elected councillor for the town.

“I have been honoured to represent Llanidloes as councillor and as mayor and thank all councillors for their support and wish you all well in the future.”

Cllr Davies added: “I hope I can still be of assistance in my role as county councillor for Blaen Hafren and my phone is always on. I would appreciate this being shared with the councillors at your convenience.”

The mayor said that the council would like to thank Cllr Davies for the “good time and support” that he has given over the years.
