BABY dragons are hatching at Rhayader as the Dragon Festival returns with the town getting set for another week of activities.

Starting on Friday, October 25, and running to the following Friday, November 1, half term week, the festival brings together a huge range of activities for the whole family to enjoy, offered by the businesses and community of Rhayader.

Dragon racing, trips, sports, drama, exhibitions, live music, craft and Halloween fun, as well as culinary delights are on offer in a number of venues in town, not forgetting Dragon Day itself on Saturday, October 26, from 11am to 4pm.

Dragon Day is a family fun day based at CARAD: the Rhayader Museum and Gallery. Last year’s festival saw Rhayader’s very own beautiful Dragon ‘Queen Belrenin’ sitting upon her nest of eggs and now those eggs have hatched and you are invited to go and meet the baby dragons, some of whom will need you to give them names.

Belrenin’s dragon keeper invites you to go along and enjoy activities, face painting, storytelling, a scavenger hunt around town and to sample the refreshments on offer.

There will be an exhibition of dragons from around the world and Dragon Day will also showcase an exciting interactive game with the augmented reality sandbox, for video projection meets sand pit with an exciting Dragon vs Gorgons game thrown in for good measure, courtesy of Elan Links.

See the programme or the CARAD website for full details of the week’s programme of activities. Some activities require booking so act fast not to miss out.

There is the chance for you to enter your very own prized dragons: models, sculptures, pictures or even stories about dragons. All are welcome and, space permitting, will feature in the exhibition running from October 26 to November 9. Contact CARAD on 01597 810561 or via Facebook with a photo of your dragon.

County Times:

Dragons can be dropped off anytime during opening hours ending today (Friday, October 18), by arrangement.

Sadly, Queen Belrenin will be unable to come out and greet people on the street as her chariot trailer needs replacing due to metal fatigue with efforts being made to replace it with one fit for a Dragon Queen.
